I started my next large oil painting on May 20, 2021. It is 24×36 in., on gessoboard. As per usual, I started with a base coat of acrylic, where I laid in the basic shapes with as much precision as I could. Texture will come later with the oil layer.

July 4, 2021. I’ve blocked in the sky, clouds, and the far tree line across the field in the background.July 11, 2021. The foliage in the upper left corner is taking shape.August 3, 2021. The first hen pheasant has been textured, along with more foliage. 512 hours to this point.August 3, 2021. A closer view of the hen.From September 18, 2021. More progress into the upper tree branches, and a little into the car. For the curious, the vehicle is a 1935 Chevrolet coupe, four door, with green paint. (Before it all rusted off.) Judging by the license plate, it’s been sitting in that grove since 1948. 592 hours to this point.
